Summary: 2008-09-24 01:17:00 I remember how alien this music was when it first came out. Totally different from anything in main-stream music. Think of this as Jimi's user-friendly album. About as close as the group ever came to top-40 music.

But who cares when modern music's too far gone to rescue. that's why we're not on the "modern" page right? i do however think that the beauty of some of this music has become lost in the legend and that only happens with "classic" rock. Hendrix was a sloppy guitarist...sure he could play but too bad he was off his face on drugs most of the time because it really takes away from the music. The great psychedelic melodies and guitar lines which waver on the border between music and soundscape are incredible to me and probably down to his drug-taking but the playing is of a lot higher standard on all his studio albums than the band ever achieved at live shows. There are some brilliant soul moments like in Remember and weird quasi jazz like in 3rd Rock From The Sun. The instrumentation is all of a high standard but Jimi wasn't an alien; oh no: he was as limited as the rest of us, all he did was focus.

Summary: 2003-01-29 00:00:00 This is one of my favorite CDs. Jimi Hendrix is without a doubt one of the best guitar players ever. Purple Haze is one of my all-time favorite songs. I Think this one of the best examples of pur rock and roll.

Summary: 2001-11-29 00:00:00 JIMI HENDRIX IS GOD. And this album is absolute genious. There is not ONE song that is not perfect-well written, well sung, well performed-simply perfect in everyway imaginable. From the amazingly beautiful 'The Wind Cries Mary' to the energetic and equally amazing 'Fire'. His heartfelt 'Manic Depression' along with his song about drug dependancy "Purple Haze' makes Are You Experienced an exceedingly personal as well as emotional record. The guitar rifts are stunning, the beats, the rhythms, EVERYTHING is stunning. This is my favorite classic album, along with Axis: Bold as Love (another Hendrix classic) and Stevie Wonder's "songs in the key of life." Go out and listen to this. There is no human way that you can't fall in Love.

Summary: 2001-11-12 00:00:00 It is the best debut album, period. Most classic Hendrix in his short career is right on Are You Experienced. The greatest guitarist to ever live is shown in his element here, with Purple Haze, Foxy Lady, and most of his other great work. If you are a true fan of rock and roll, you need to hear the material on this album. It is music, power, dazing, at its best.
