Summary: 2002-01-06 00:00:00 This is really a wonderful album. Joni Mitchell is the single greatest female artist. It is also her best work. The last track, "Twisted," is one my favorite Joni song.

Summary: 2001-08-15 00:00:00 Excellent! Jazz is an obvious influence here. The title track, "Help Me," "Free Man in Paris" (the best song on the album, with Crosby & Nash on backing vocals, I believe), "Car on a Hill," and "Raised on Robbery" are all strong. "People's Parties" shows off Joni's amazing ability to paint a picture with her songwriting. "Twisted" is good for comedic relief, with Cheech and Chong as a nice surprise. And listening to that last paragraph of "The Same Situation" ("Still I sent up my prayer/wondering who was there to hear/I said 'Send me somebody/who's strong and somehwat sincere,' /With the millions of the lost and lonely ones, I called out to be released, Caught in my struggle for higher achievements and my search for love that don't seem to cease") I thought "well, that just about covers every doubt and significant thought I have in my mind." High quality music.

Summary: 2001-07-13 00:00:00 This is truly a breakthrough album! Joni uses slick jazzy arrangements and blends them expertly with slightly folksy tunes to create pieces highly evocative of deep, personal emotions.

Summary: 2001-06-27 00:00:00 Along with "Blue," this is a true Joni Mitchell classic. It was also my first introduction to Joni when it came out in the 70's. Ever since I heard "Help Me" on the radio, I was hooked. The entire record is amazing and influential and begins to hint at the places Joni might go in the future, including jazz. "People's Parties," "Free Man in Paris," "Court and Spark," "Down to You," "Just Like This Train," "Raised on Robbery": they're all on this cd and all classic Joni songs in my opinion. From the sensitive to the playful, there is lyrical poetry, inventive song structures and a voice that is breathtaking. I'm convinced that this record belongs in the top ten of all rock or pop records ever made.
