Summary: 2007-09-28 12:37:00 Terrific listing. . .underrated party album. . .some solid tracks with few weak fillers. . .yes, "Let it Bleed" is a better album top-to-bottom, but I've left "exile" in the CD changer and it has been a crowd-pleaser in the past. . .

Summary: 2007-09-28 10:31:00 Some people think that this is the best one, and while I actually prefer the three previous albums, this one has some of their best material. Astonishingly, when it came out it wasn't thought of as a great one by most of the writers, and when I got it when I was 16, I initially wasn't particularly impressed. It sounded too muddy and raw. But it's an album that grows on you. What's unfortunate about this one is that the stations play "Tumbling Dice," "Happy" and maybe something else once in a while: unless The Stones happen to be in town or something, then they might dig a little deeper. There are lots of great tunes, some of my favorites are "Loving Cup,""Torn and Frayed," and "Rocks Off," and "Rip This Joint" is almost like a primer for everything that blues soaked rock n' roll should be... My absolute favorites are "Shine A Light" and ( especially)"Let It Loose" those are two of the most incredible, emotion packed, and brilliant tunes they ever did IMO. Gritty, decadent, raw, honest, and powerful recording, in my view the last album they did that was uniformly brilliant from start to finish....One of the truly, truly awesome double albums of the genre.

Summary: 2007-09-28 01:33:00 I'm with Oscar, the album is the weary messy coda to their greatest run of albums that goes from Beggars Banquet through Let it Bleed and Sticky Fingers to this great set. Throw Get Yer Ya Yas Out into that period as their best ever live record and you have enough music for a legendary career. Let it Bleed is the overall strongest of the group, but Exile has a handful of absolute stone classics, my personal favourites being Sweet Black Angel and Shine a Light.

Summary: 2004-10-22 07:33:00 3 great reasons to own this one:"Shake your Hips" an absolutely phenomenal cover of Slim Harpos tune,"Ventilator Blues",which sounds just as vital today as when it was recorded, and "Stop Breakin Down".These alone would suffice-but the rest of the album is pretty good also.

Summary: 2003-06-16 10:07:00 Mr. Ambivalent here. It sat on my shelf for years and now I can't keep it on the shelf. I've come to appreciate the "underappreciated classics"--"Let it Loose" (Jagger roars and cries, the horns are hot), "Sweet Black Angel", "Torn and Frayed", etc.--in addition to the hits. If it's not one song on "Exile" I'm craving, it's another. At first listen it all sounded careless. Now it sounds intricate, confident and really quite impressive. And yea- brilliant comment, Springsteen80sbaby.

Summary: 2000-10-20 02:00:00 A classic album!!! The Stones are one of the best rock bands, and this is one of their best albums. "Tumbling Dice" is one of my favorite Stones songs. I bought this one to compare it track for track to Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville, which was her answer to the Stones' Exile.

Summary: 2000-10-19 10:14:00 I feel this is the Stones greatest album. They were strung out on drugs/alcohol (Mick alcohol, Keith on heroin). Also, they had just finished a brutal world tour and just locked themselves in the studio for a couple of months and created a masterpiece.
