While there's more than one greatest hits collection from manic depression's pop bard Morrissey, this 2001 release is easily the definitive overview of the one-time Smiths frontman's solo career. Starting from late-1980s hits like the deceptively sunny "Everyday is Like Sunday," through the underrated '97 hit "Alma Matters," and including his modern rock number-ones "Tomorrow" and "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get," there's nary an omission on this thorough collection (well, maybe "Picadilly Palare," but it's hard to please everyone). |
