| This reissue of Texas outsider musician Jandek's 1982 album incorporates the solo acoustic artist's first electric guitar performance, as well as bass and drum accompaniment. Jandek's music has been described as like listening to a "listless, beer-numbed trailer-park teen...mumbling to himself and accidentally stumbling over his guitar." Here, he intones his often surprisingly affecting lyrics over random guitar accompaniment, with occasional bursts of Sonic Youth-style volume--though to presume Jandek has any discernible musical influences would be a mistake. Occasionally delicate, sometimes grotesque, and frequently unhinged, CHAIR BEHIND A WINDOW is very much an acquired taste. | |
