With their screamo singing, spastic energy, keytar player, and overt Christian beliefs, Showbread is a curious band to begin with. But on AGE OF REPTILES, the Georgia outfit's second release on Tooth & Nail, Showbread add near-schizophrenic genre-hopping to their roster of quirks. Industrial intensity, jangly pop-rock, garagey distortion, new wave synth squiggles, and any number of other elements are thrown into the mix, and with titles like "Pachycephalosaurus" and "George Romero Will Be at Our Wedding," it's hard to know what to think. But wild surprise is part of the appeal of these Jesus-happy rockers, and AGE OF REPTILES packs enough straight rock punch amid its wacky curveballs to please fans of contemporary rock and alternative CCM.
