Under the moniker A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Elephant 6 stalwart Jeremy Barnes and his partner, violinist Heather Troth, have been making some seriously compelling outre folk music that evokes shoeboxes of dusty sepia prints, costume jewelry, and complex mold formations. For THE WAY THE WIND BLOWS, their third album, the duo went to Romania to record with members of the gypsy brass band Fanfare Ciocarlia, whose tubas and trombones and accordions only add to the haunting old-world eeriness.
