The Danish duo, Junior Senior, is among pop music's more oddball propositions. An unlikely mash-up of early disco-flavored rap and Day-Glo garage punk, their fresh, whimsical approach to retro dance-pop has warmed the hearts of cynical music fans the world over. Though it may be tempting to write off Junior Senior's biggest hit, "Move Your Feet" (off their debut album), as a one-off dance floor fluke, their sophomore attempt, HEY HEY MY MY YO YO, packs in hits a-plenty, all the while dispelling notions that the band are a mere retro novelty act.

Kicking things off with the good-natured old-school rhymes of "Hip Hop a Lula," Junior Senior brings back the wide-eyed innocence and party-time exuberance of rap music's earliest efforts--when rhyming was less about verbal acrobatics than about setting off the party. The genial, celebratory atmosphere continues with the bright electro-funk number "Can I Get Get," which features an infectious bass line and synth hook--in sheer catchiness, the track gives their own "Move Your Feet" a run for its money. Recruiting the vocal cheer-squad of Kate Pierson and Le Tigre for several tracks only adds to Junior Senior's party-rocking agenda, making HEY HEY MY MY YO YO fun from start to finish.
