On 2008's EARTH TO THE DANDY WARHOLS, the group's first non-major-label outing since its 1995 debut (DANDYS RULE OK?), the ever-energetic alt-rock act offers up a giddily eccentric set of tunes. Led with typical swagger by frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor, the Portland, Oregon-based ensemble goes for a goth/glam vibe with "Mission Control," drifts down a shoegaze portal on the Ride-like "Wasp in the Lotus," and wanders into pastoral psychedelic territory on "Love Song," a track that features Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) on dobro and Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) on banjo.
