Although her goofy, thrift shop sense of fashion made her seem like a cartoon character at times, Cyndi Lauper was one of the bright spots in the early days of MTV, and her songs displayed a sharp, savvy pop edge that has given the best of them a rare kind of staying power, and they've held up better through the years than most songs from the new wave era. This set has all her key singles, most of them drawn from her wonderful first album, 1983's She's So Unusual. "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," "Money Changes Everything," "All Through the Night," the gorgeous "Time After Time," and "True Colors" -- they're all here. ~ Steve Leggett
