| More a cross-section of parts of his solo career from his first two decades up to 2008 than a strict GREATEST HITS, this Decca collection is more of a testament to the quality of Morrissey's early-2000s resurgence. GH opens with "First of the Gang to Die," a mobster ballad from 2003 that provides insight into some of the depression-rocker's unlikeliest fanbases. From there, the compilation switches from later hits like the anthem "Irish Blood, English Heart" and the defiantly forlorn "You Have Killed Me" to undeniable classics from the 1980s, such as "Suedehead," "Every Day is Like Sunday," and the lone '90s representative, "The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get." | |
