Andy Bothwell, the Seattle-born producer/MC/vocalist known as Astronautalis further blurs the boundaries between underground hip-hop and lo-fi on his third full-length LP, POMEGRANATE. Working with thickly layered instrumentation (built on thumping piano keys, folksy acoustic guitar lines, and bluesy horn sections), Bothwell veers between shoe-gazing, half-sung vocals, raucous Tom Waits-inspired dirges, and high-speed rhymes to spin richly detailed narratives often rooted in historical events. Vocalist Sarah Jaffe and celebrated Minneapolis punk-rapper P.O.S. are on the guestlist.
