Enon crafts a distinctive, diverse, compellingly frenetic sound; not all that surprising considering they boast members of three of the most talented, eclectic bands to grace the indie rock scene. Lead singer John Schmersal got his start in experimental-electronic-just-about-everything-else outfit Braniac whose career came to an early, tragic end when leader Tim Taylor died in a car accident. Enon also features alluring chanteuse Toko Yasuda from New York City scenesters Blonde Redhead, and Skeleton Key's creative percussionist Rick Lee, known to perform encircled by wagons, suits of armor and, yes, the kitchen sink.

On "Carbonation," one of the many terse tracks (they average less than three minutes) on HIGH SOCIETY, Enon's second album, the band chants "less pop, more fizz" over a borderline-Bis beat. Opening track "Old Dominion" purveys driving rock riffs descended from T. Rex or The Stooges. The following track "Count Sheep" wanders about an unpredictable beat somewhere between the Poster Children and Fugazi. The one consistent element in the Enon sound is its restless eclecticism, as seen throughout HIGH SOCIETY.
